Vivotif is used to prevent typhoid fever caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria. It is recommended for travelers to areas where typhoid is common and for household contacts of typhoid carriers. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the bacteria. It is not used to treat active infections.

After taking Vivotif, the immune system may respond by producing protective antibodies. Some individuals may experience mild effects like stomach upset or headache. These effects are generally temporary and resolve on their own. The vaccine does not cause typhoid fever as it contains a weakened form of the bacteria.

Vivotif should be stored in a refrigerator until use. Avoid exposing the capsules to heat or moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Inform your healthcare provider if you have a weakened immune system or a fever before vaccination. Complete the full vaccination course for optimal protection.

Vivotif may interact with antibiotics or other medications that weaken the immune system. Avoid taking Vivotif if you are currently on antibiotics, as they may reduce its effectiveness. Consult a healthcare provider if you are on any medications or have recently received other vaccines. Alcohol does not directly interact with the vaccine but may be avoided for general health reasons.
