Vivotif

Vivotif is an oral typhoid vaccine containing live, attenuated Salmonella Typhi bacteria. It helps protect against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella Typhi. This vaccine is taken as capsules for oral use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Vivotif is used to prevent typhoid fever, a serious bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water. It is recommended for travelers to areas where typhoid is common and for people in close contact with typhoid carriers. The vaccine works by stimulating the body’s immune response to Salmonella Typhi. It is not used to treat active typhoid infections.

After taking Vivotif, some people may experience mild effects such as stomach discomfort, nausea, or headache. These effects are usually temporary and resolve on their own. The vaccine does not cause typhoid fever, as the bacteria are weakened and cannot cause illness in healthy individuals.

Vivotif should be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F) and protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Discard if the vaccine appears discolored or contains particles. Consult a healthcare provider before use if you have a weakened immune system or a fever.

Vivotif may interact with antibiotics or other medications that weaken the immune system, potentially reducing its effectiveness. Avoid taking antibiotics for at least 72 hours before and after vaccination. Alcohol does not directly interact with the vaccine but may affect overall health and immune response. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking.
