Zutectra

Zutectra is a human hepatitis B immunoglobulin used for post-exposure prophylaxis in individuals at risk of hepatitis B infection. This passive immunization helps prevent infection after potential exposure to the virus. It is administered via subcutaneous injection.

Zutectra is used to provide immediate, short-term protection against hepatitis B virus infection following potential exposure, such as needlestick injuries or mucosal contact with infected blood. It is also used for individuals who have not been vaccinated or have an inadequate response to hepatitis B vaccination. The medication contains antibodies derived from human plasma, offering passive immunity to support the body’s natural defenses.

Zutectra works by supplying ready-made antibodies that recognize and neutralize the hepatitis B virus, reducing the risk of infection. Users may notice a temporary reduction in fatigue or jaundice-related symptoms if exposed, though individual responses vary. The effects are temporary and do not provide long-term immunity.

Zutectra should be stored refrigerated and protected from freezing. Before use, inspect the solution for particles or discoloration; do not use if either is present. Inform your healthcare provider of any allergies, especially to human blood products, as severe allergic reactions are possible. Avoid sharing needles or devices used for administration.

No specific drug interactions have been established for Zutectra. However, live vaccines may have reduced effectiveness if administered shortly after receiving this immunoglobulin.
