Zutectra is a human hepatitis B immunoglobulin used for post-exposure prophylaxis and long-term protection against hepatitis B virus. Zutectra is used to prevent hepatitis B infection after exposure, such as needlestick injuries or mucosal contact with infected blood. It is also prescribed for individuals who have not responded adequately to hepatitis B vaccination or require rapid immunity, such as before travel to high-risk areas. The medication provides temporary protection by supplying pre-formed antibodies.

Zutectra works by delivering antibodies that bind to the hepatitis B virus, helping the body neutralize the infection before it takes hold. Users may notice a reduction in anxiety about potential exposure after administration. The effects are temporary and do not provide permanent immunity like a vaccine.

Store Zutectra in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C and protect from light. Do not freeze or shake the vial. Administer only as directed by a healthcare professional. Report any signs of allergic reaction, such as swelling or difficulty breathing, immediately. Keep out of reach of children.

Zutectra may interact with live vaccines, potentially reducing their effectiveness. Avoid receiving live vaccines for at least 3 months after administration. No known interactions with alcohol or common medications, but consult a healthcare provider before combining with other treatments. Immune response to other vaccines may be temporarily altered.
