Zovirax cream is used to treat outbreaks of cold sores (herpes labialis) and genital herpes (herpes simplex) on the skin. It works by slowing the growth of the herpes virus, helping the body fight the infection. Apply at the first sign of symptoms for best results. Not intended for use inside the mouth or on mucous membranes.

When applied as directed, Zovirax may help shorten the duration of herpes outbreaks and reduce discomfort. Some users report less itching, tingling, or burning within a few days. The cream is generally well-tolerated when used on intact skin. Effects vary by individual and timing of application.

Wash hands before and after applying Zovirax to avoid spreading the virus. Avoid contact with eyes, inside the mouth, or on broken skin. Do not use if you are allergic to aciclovir or valaciclovir. Keep the tube tightly closed and store at room temperature away from moisture.

No significant drug interactions are reported for topical aciclovir. However, avoid using other skin treatments in the same area unless directed by a healthcare provider. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or dressings unless advised. Alcohol and other medications do not typically interfere with aciclovir cream.
