Xalatan

Xalatan (Latanoprost) is an eye drop medication primarily used to treat high pressure inside the eye, such as in open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It belongs to a class of drugs known as prostaglandin analogs. This medication helps reduce pressure by increasing fluid drainage from the eye.

Xalatan is commonly prescribed to lower elevated intraocular pressure, which can help prevent damage to the optic nerve and vision loss. It is often used in conditions like open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension when other treatments are not suitable. The medication works by mimicking natural substances to improve fluid outflow from the eye.

After application, Xalatan typically begins to lower eye pressure within a few hours, with peak effects seen after 12 hours. Users may notice gradual improvement in eye comfort and reduced redness over time. Some people experience a slight darkening of the iris or eyelid skin, which may become more noticeable with long-term use.

Store Xalatan in a cool, dry place away from light and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination. Contact lenses should be removed before applying the drops and can be reinserted after 15 minutes. Wash hands before and after use.

While Xalatan has minimal systemic absorption, it may interact with other eye medications if used simultaneously. Wait at least 5 minutes between applying Xalatan and other eye drops to avoid dilution effects. There are no significant known interactions with oral medications, but always inform your healthcare provider about all medications being used.
