Xalatan

Xalatan (latanoprost) is an eye drop solution used to reduce high pressure in the eye, often prescribed for conditions like glaucoma. This prostaglandin analog helps maintain eye health by improving fluid drainage. Suitable for adults and some children under supervision.

Xalatan is primarily used to treat high pressure inside the eye, a condition known as ocular hypertension. It is also prescribed for open-angle glaucoma, a progressive eye disease that can lead to vision loss if untreated. The medication works by increasing the outflow of fluid from the eye, helping to lower pressure and reduce the risk of optic nerve damage.

After application, Xalatan may cause a gradual change in eye color, particularly in people with mixed eye colors. Some users notice darker, thicker eyelashes or mild eye redness. These effects are generally temporary and vary by individual. Blurred vision or slight stinging may occur briefly after instillation.

Store Xalatan in a cool, dry place away from light and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Discard any unused solution after 28 days of opening.

Xalatan is generally well-tolerated, but it may interact with other eye medications. Using multiple eye drops should be spaced at least 5 minutes apart to prevent dilution. Avoid combining with high-dose nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as they may reduce effectiveness. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are using.
