Vaxchora

Vaxchora is an oral cholera vaccine containing live attenuated Vibrio cholerae bacteria. It helps protect adults traveling to areas with active cholera transmission. This single-dose vaccine provides immunity against cholera for up to 3 months. Store refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C.

Vaxchora is used to prevent cholera in adults aged 18–64 who are traveling to regions where cholera is common. It works by exposing the immune system to a weakened form of the bacteria, triggering a protective response. Travelers to outbreak zones or areas with poor sanitation may benefit from vaccination. It does not treat active infections but helps reduce disease risk.

After taking Vaxchora, some users may experience mild effects like headache, stomach pain, or tiredness. These effects are usually short-lived and resolve on their own. Some people report mild diarrhea or nausea, which typically does not require medical attention. Most users tolerate the vaccine well with no noticeable reactions.

Vaxchora should be stored refrigerated and used before the expiration date. Keep the vaccine in its original packaging to protect it from light. Do not freeze or expose to high temperatures. Discard if the liquid appears cloudy or contains particles. Consult a healthcare provider if you have a weakened immune system or severe illness.

Vaxchora may interact with certain medications, including antibiotics or antimalarials, which could reduce its effectiveness. Avoid taking oral antibiotics within 14 days before or after vaccination. Live vaccines like Vaxchora should not be given to people with weakened immune systems. Alcohol does not directly affect the vaccine but may impact overall health.
