Typhim Vi

Typhim Vi is a typhoid vaccine designed to help protect against Salmonella Typhi infection. This inactivated vaccine is administered via injection to stimulate immunity. Typhim Vi is used to prevent typhoid fever caused by the Salmonella Typhi bacteria. It is recommended for travelers to areas where typhoid is common, laboratory workers handling Salmonella Typhi, and individuals in close contact with typhoid carriers. The vaccine works by prompting the immune system to produce antibodies against the bacteria. It does not treat existing infections but helps reduce risk before exposure.

After receiving Typhim Vi, some individuals may experience mild effects at the injection site, such as redness, swelling, or discomfort. General effects can include low-grade fever, headache, or fatigue, which typically resolve within a few days. These responses are normal signs that the body is building immunity. Serious reactions are rare but should be reported to a healthcare provider.

Typhim Vi should be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C and protected from light. It is not recommended for individuals with a known allergy to any component of the vaccine or those who have had a severe reaction to a previous dose. Inform your healthcare provider of any current illnesses or weakened immune systems before vaccination. Keep the vaccine out of reach of children.

Typhim Vi may interact with immunosuppressive therapies, such as steroids or chemotherapy, potentially reducing its effectiveness. Live vaccines should not be administered simultaneously with Typhim Vi; a minimum interval of 4 weeks is recommended.
