Fosamax

Fosamax (Alendronic Acid) is a medication used to treat osteoporosis and prevent bone fractures. This oral medication helps improve bone density and reduce the risk of breaks.

Fosamax is primarily used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. It is also used to prevent bone fractures and is sometimes prescribed for Paget's disease of bone. Fosamax works by slowing down the process that removes bone tissue, helping to maintain stronger bones.

Common effects of Fosamax may include stomach pain, nausea, and heartburn. Some users may experience muscle pain, headache, or dizziness. Severe side effects are rare but can include jaw problems or unusual thigh bone fractures.

Fosamax should be taken with a full glass of water and while standing or sitting upright. It is important to avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking Fosamax to prevent irritation of the esophagus. Patients with kidney problems or low calcium levels should consult a healthcare provider before use.

Fosamax may interact with other medications, including antacids, aspirin, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is advisable to avoid taking Fosamax with food, calcium supplements, or other medications within two hours of administration.
